In this article you’ll learn how to start a new Microsoft Teams group chat from Jira.

Start a new Teams group chat

Depending on how the appearance is configured and if you are using the new or old issue view, you can start this action a bit differently. We’ll assume you are using the default settings with the new Jira issue view, please see the end of the article to see how it looks like for other settings.

To get started, click the Microsoft Teams button in any issue.

This will bring up the following dialog, where you can select to start a group chat. Please note, that due to a Microsoft Teams limitation, you’ll have to include at least two other participants! You can’t have a 1:1 group chat (yet).

When you have typed your message (formatting is currently unsupported), you can click “Send to Teams”. As Microsoft is still building the APIs for this exact function, you’ll now be taken to Microsoft Teams, after confirming it.

This will open a compose view of Microsoft Teams with the information you prefilled. Just hit “Send” to start the chat.

After you have done this, Jira should pick up the new group chat and render it accordingly in the issue view.
