Teams: Work with Jira board in MS Teams

Collaborate and communicate with your team - even outside of Jira. Add Jira boards to a Microsoft Teams tab of your choice and even allow non-Jira users access to Jira boards.

The look and feel is just like in Jira with its columns. Change the issue status via drag and drop, add new issues to the board (see specifics!), and see important issue information with just one click - all directly in Microsoft Teams.

Prerequisites

Setting up a Jira board in Teams (either from Teams or Jira) requires:

  • a Microsoft Teams owner or Microsoft 365 admin

  • a (licensed) Jira user with access to the desired board

Set-up the Jira board as a tab in Microsoft Teams

Choose a Teams channel

Choose the Microsoft Teams channel where you want to add the board to as a tab.

Click on the “+” in the ribbon and a new dialogue opens.

Search for our “Smart Connect” app.

Add Jira board to Teams

Choose a Jira board via the drop down menu.

Decide if non-Jira users are allowed to make changes to the board or if they can only see the board and click “Save”.

Get an overview

Jira and non-Jira users can now access all relevant issues at a glance right in Teams.

An issue is in progress now? Drag & drop* it right in Teams (if allowed in the settings).

Access issue details

Click on issue and have all necessary information about it at a glance. Even call involved persons, start a chat or add a Jira comment!

Please note: No custom fields are displayed yet.

Access backlog issues

Sure, you can also display your backlog issues in Teams.

Go to the Jira board tab in Teams > click on the arrows > choose “Settings” and toggle “Show backlog column”.

Good to know

  • *When transitioning an issue in the board via drag and drop, only the status of the issue changes. A ranking of issues via drag and drop in the board is not possible yet.

  • You can access attachments of the issue directly in this view (Coming soon: upload attachments)

  • For chats there is a technical limitation, so chats are currently displayed as a deep link (“related chats”).

  • MS Teams conversations linked to an issue are visible in the sidebar and can be started. You can also link multiple conversations or start new Teams conversations. The Jira issue will then be linked to that conversation.
