2.3 How to: Create and update new issues

We have a new version of Outlook Email for Jira!

To create and update new issues you have the following options:


1.Create blank issue


You can create a blank issue like creating any other Outlook item.


2. Create issue based on whole email


To upload or add the whole email as JIRA issue use the icons "New Issue" or "Add to Issue" in the Outlook menu.

3. Create issue based on selected email content


If you don´t want to upload or add the whole email, simply select the content relevant for your JIRA issue and use the right click option to find the buttons “New Issue" and “Add to Issue".


Create/Add to Issue Window 

If you want to create or add to issues a window with all available JIRA fields opens. Because of the JIRA look & feel you should recognize the project relevant fields and can easily fill them. To make issue creation as easy and quick as possible we help you with the following features:

  1. Configurable field mapping between email and issue:
    • Email subject as summary
    • Email body as description
    • Email sender as reporter
  2. Email content converts into JIRA markup
  3. One-click upload of attachments
  4. Rename attachments before upload
  5. See default values
  6. Dropdown values with live search for users, issues, tags etc.
  7. Up to 5 recent items for project, issue and user fields
  8. Predefined Templates
  9. Initial data set by JIRA admin
  10. Automatically match email sender to JIRA user


For JIRA Service Desk user:

Open JIRA tickets on behalf of the sender and create a new customer. The request type selection will be the same as in your Service Desk portal.
